Introduction
Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) or Malaysian Skills Certificate (MSC) is a formally recognised skill- and work-based qualification. It is issued by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK)to students who have shown the competencies necessary to perform tasks and functions for employment in the more practical and technical fields of work.

Duration
The duration of SKM depends on the course and level. Typically, a course can range anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.

Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 1

• Duration: 6 months
• Awarded to candidates who display competency in performing a wide of various job functions or work-related activities.

Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 2

• Duration: 6 months
• Awarded to candidates who display competency in performing a significant range of varied work activities in a variety of situations, including autonomy and responsibility.

Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3

• Duration: 1 year
• Awarded to candidates who display competency in a wide range of complex and non-routine work-related activities.

Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) Level 4

• Duration: 1 year
• Awarded to candidates who display competency in technical and highly challenging work-related activities coupled with a significant amount of personal responsibility.

Intakes
The intakes for SKM are generally in January, May and September each year.
